The Literacy Council Project of the Family Resource Center of Sheboygan County is a volunteer-based organization that provides reading partners to elementary schools and free, one-to-one literacy instruction to English and non-English speaking adult residents of Sheboygan County.
The Literacy Council Project recruits and trains volunteer literacy tutors and serves as a resource for instructional materials, workshops, support, and sometimes as a meeting place for tutoring sessions. The Literacy Council Project collaborates with other organizations and individuals in the community to promote literacy in Sheboygan County.
We are an affiliated agency of the Sheboygan and Plymouth Area United Way.
The Literacy Council has been providing literacy services to Sheboygan County residents for over twenty years. In July 2007, the Literacy Council merged with the Family Resource Center of Sheboygan County. The Family Resource Center has served Sheboygan County families since 1995 with programming, classes, and resources that support its mission to build strong communities and strong families. Providing literacy services to Sheboygan County residents plays a key role in that mission.
The Community Advisory Board of the Literacy Council Project provides a forum for community partners and constituents to contribute valuable perspectives to the Literacy Council Project. Members support the mission of the Literacy Council Project by making recommendations and providing feedback regarding the services and programs offered by the Literacy Council Project. Community Advisory Board members help to communicate the mission of the Literacy Council Project to the wider community.
