The Family Resource Center provides programs for all ages and interests to strengthen families and individuals. The programs are presented, coordinated, sponsored, or assisted by The Family Resource Center in collaboration with school districts, churches, and various community agencies and organizations.

I'm Growing up so You Better Get this Potty Started! P!nk said it best . . . and there's no time like the present to learn about potty training. Whether you feel it's time to learn more, start training, or you're in the midst of training at your house, we invite you to join Parent Educator Renee Wachuta for an informative round of potty talk. Prepared with techniques and support, you'll know the facts of this milestone. Limited childcare is available for this class.

Hello Brother, Hello Sister: Preparing Your Child for a new Sibling No doubt about it - a new child brings changes to every family. FRC staff will walk parents and children (2 and older) through some of these changes with play activities that build confidence and anticipation for the event. Later, children will participate in age-appropriate activities to prepare them for the upcoming changes while parents meet with an educator to discuss expectations and ideas on how to respond to both positive and negative behaviors of all children in the family. Collaboration of St. Nicholas Hospital and the FRC.

Love and Logic for Middle School Parents - "Tweenagers" quickly become teenagers and having a positive, respectful relationship with them from middle school through the teen years is key to a smooth transition. Join Deb Gentine-Ebert for practical parenting tips and strategies to get you geared up for letting them spread their wings wile still keeping the parental bond strong. Farnsworth Middle School in Sheboygan hosts the classes and parents from every school district are invited to attend.

Where: Farnsworth Middle School, 1017 Union Avenue, Sheboygan

Cost: $15 per family, payable in advance to the FRC, covers the cost of the workbook

As One: For Unmarried Couples - Earn $100.00 and learn more about relationships. Moms and dads, are you an unmarried couple with a child under 3 months of age? Or are you an unmarried couple expecting a baby? If you answered "yes" to either of these questions, this class is for you! Join us to learn more about your relationship and co-parenting your new baby. All couples completing all 4 sessions will receive a $100 bank card; dinner is provided each night. Registration is required to ensure childcare, dinner and bank cards.

Teen Building
Parenting doesn't stop or slow down in the teen years, it speeds up! Phil Duket, FRC staff, is at the head of this class which empowers parents to build resilient teens who make good choices. Great kids have parents who keep on parenting from cradle to college. Come with your questions about pre-teens and teens.

Ship-Shape and Ready for School! Top-notch organizer Janice Enriquez gives hints, tips, and practical advice to parents on getting ready for another school year. Help yourself and your children get out the door with less hassle, frazzle and fuss with these time-saving, nerve-sparing ideas. Don't miss this one! For parents of chidren of all ages. Registration is required and limited childcare is available.

Family Healthcare - with Dr. Dharmesh Murthy - We stand behind the idea that there are no foolish questions, especially when it comes to the health of ourselves and our children. Dr. Dharmesh Murthy, a family physician with Aurora Health Care, will take the time to field questions regarding healthcare for you and your family. He'll also give us his Top Ten List of ways to be a healthy family. Registration is required and limited childcare is available.

Back to the Basics: The 3 R's - Redirect, Reward, Reinforce! We've been doing it since infancy but sometimes our tactics start to falter as our kids get older. If you have a preschooler through elementary-aged child adn you could use a boost in parenting techniques, you'll find them in this class. Registration is required and limited childcare is available.

Family Voices: Did You Know? Now You Know! - A training course for parents of children with special health care needs and/or disabilities, to learn about finding resources, services and supports for your child. Meet toher parents and providers and leave the training feeling more informeed and empowered to get the services and supports your child needs! The evening will begin with a meal. Story Adventures: Making Books LEAP off the Page - Parents, explore the many ways you can make books exciting for your preschool through early elementary school child. Carol Langkabel and Ann Krueger, both seasoned librarians, will provide you with ideas that appeal to all types of learners. Carol and Ann will showcase stories by authors featured in the Sheboygan Children's Book Festival. Limited childcare is available.

EPIC (Every Person Influences Children) - Parenting is a challenging job! EPIC helps you to help your child develop self-concept and self-esteem; understand rules and responsibilities; and learn decision making and problem solving skills. Limited childcare is available.

Cost: $10 per family, payable in advance to the FRC, to cover the cost of materials; scholarships are available

Thriving With Your Spirited Child - Do you know a child who just has more intensity, sensitivity, activity or persistence than other children? Learn how understanding a spirited child's temperament can help you and your child go from surviving to thriving ! Share coping skills and strategies with other parents. Facilitated by Jane Jensen, Family Living Educator, Sheboygan County UW-Extension. Limited childcare is available.

Mom's Night Out: Zentangle with Cindy - Zentangle is a fascinating, new, portable art form that is fun and relaxing and requires no artistic talent! Completed Zentangle tiles can be used in a variety of decorative ways. Cindy Evanoff will teach us all we need to know about just what might beome your next hobby. Baby's Got Book - It's never too early to begin reading to your child! Babies listen, process and learn from day one! Parents, bring your children birth to 2 years to this activity and we will learn ways to enrich a child's literary life in some fun and practical ways. We'll read books by well-known children's authors and make a book of our own to take home!

FRC Fall Fest - Honey Crisp, Delicious, Gala, Macintosh, Pippin . . . did you know that there are over 7500 different apple varieties? Visit Whispering Orchards with the FRC staff to learn about apples, pick a few, and meet barnyard friends. Dress for interactive farm conditions. Pumpkins, apples by the pound, and other goodies are available for sale.

Winter Wonderland - Who's got a beard that's long and white? Who comes around on a special night? Must be Santa! And Santa is a MUST at this annual holiday bash. Come for light refreshments, crafts and entertainment. Family or individual photos will be taken by appointment, with or without the jolly old elf - it's your choice. Ken Pannier (Pannier Photography) and Glenn Thiesenheusen (Blue Moon Studio) donate their services for this family event. Take your chances at our annual holiday raffle. You are invited to bring a new or gently used stuffed toy, which will be packed in Santa's bag for delivery to Senior Citizen friends who live alone and are on his Christmas morning visit list. Registration is required, so sign up early and kick off the holiday season with the staff of the FRC.

Home Makeover: Graham Cracker Edition - Ward off cabin fever! Enjoy a night out with your 5-11 year-old, constructing an edible cottage. Bring one box of graham crackers and one bag of hard candy to share, to decorate the cottages. We'll supply the icing and some instruction, you supply the creativity. It may be cold outside, but the atmosphere at this class will be warm and cozy!

PAT Picnic PAT is Sweet 16 this year! Join us for our annual potluck picnic for all current and former families of the Parents As Teachers home visiting program. We'll provide the games, the beverages, and the tableware. You provide the laughter, the fun of connecting with old and new friends, and a dish to pass. We'll celebrate with birthday cake marking 16 years of Parents As Teachers (PAT) through the FRC. Volunteers for set-up, clean-up, and helping with games are always welcome and needed. Let us know if you can help! When: August 26, 2010, 5:30-7:30pm. Where: Sheboygan Falls River Park, large shelter. Cost: This is a free event; please bring a dish to pass, based on your last name:

A-L: vegetable or side dish

M-R: salad or veggie/fruit platter (dip is optional)

S-Z: main dish

FRC will provide broasted chicken and cake.

Kids Nutrition Corner Classes Join Laura Graney, Registered Dietitian, for an enjoyable hour making yummy snacks that are both delicious and nutritious. Children ages 2 to 5 years accompanied by an adult will enjoy these sessions. Please choose a maximum of two sessions to allow others the opportunity to participate as well. Waiting lists will be created as needed. Due to space constraints, we cannot welcome unregistered adults or children.

Cost is $5 per family for each session and is payable in advance.

Almost Pear-adise! If you've PARED down your snack list to a ho-hum assortment, we'll help you PEAR it back up with nutritious deportment! Bring your child, you can even bring a PAIR! We'll preview Watermelon Day by Kathi Appelt, a featured author at the Sheboygan Children's Book Festival.

Just Chillin' with my Friends - Winter gives us many chances to spend time together as we escape from the frost and flakes. We can cuddle up inside with winter-themed treats and read B is for Badger: A Wisconsin Alphabet, written by Kathy-jo Wargin and illustrated by Milwaukee resident, Renee Graef. Kathy-jo is one of the featured authors at the Sheboygan Children's Book Festival.
