Programs , Projects, Classes, Activities

The Family Resource Center provides programs for all ages and interests to strengthen families and individuals. The programs are presented, coordinated, sponsored, or assisted by The Family Resource Center in collaboration with school districts, churches, and various community agencies and organizations.

Community Programs

Child Find A Wisconsin initiative for each school district to answer questions by parents and/or professionals in regards to their child’s development and special needs.  The Family Resource Center is a designated Child Find site.   Call 920-892-6706 for more information.

Immunization Clinics offered by Sheboygan County Department of Public Health Provides immunizations for infants through adult years.  Appointments are necessary and are made through Public Health by calling 920-459-3030 or 1-800-596-1919, Ext. 3030. Clinics are held weekly in Sheboygan, and on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month at the Family Resource Center-Plymouth site.

FRC Projects

Parents as Teachers Fun, informational, and free home-visiting program for all first-time parents in Sheboygan County.

Military Families Connect For family members from all branches of the active armed forces, to include Reserve, National Guard, Coast Guard, and full-time military unites.  Group meets the 4th Monday of each month.

Literacy Council Project provides literacy services for adults and children in Sheboygan County through its One-on-One Adult Literacy program, and through its Partners in Reading program, a reading enrichment program available to all elementary schools in Sheboygan County.  Both programs rely on volunteer tutors to provide no-cost literacy services to county residents.  Training is provided for all volunteers.

Drug Free Community Project focuses on substance abuse prevention for youth and adults in Sheboygan County.  Through a collaborative effort working with school districts, local agencies, parents and community members, we are working to create an environment that is supportive of an alcohol and drug-free lifestyle.

Wisconsin Alliance for Healthy Marriages Project offers a regular 4-part class series titled “As One: For Couples.”  This class is open to any unmarried couple that is pregnant or have a child under the age of 3 months at the time of the class.  The focus of this class is learning about healthy relationships.  Couples who successfully complete all 4 classes earn a $100 bank card.  Dinner and free childcare are provided each night.

Programs are held at The Family Resource Center sites in Plymouth and Sheboygan, as well as other Sheboygan County sites. I’m Growing up so You Better Get this Potty Started! Hello Brother, Hello Sister: Preparing Your Child for a new Sibling No doubt about it - a new child brings changes to every family.  FRC staff will walk parents and children (2 and older) through some of these changes with play activities that build confidence and anticipation for the event.  Later, children will participate in age-appropriate activities to prepare them for the upcoming changes while parents meet with an educator to discuss expectations and ideas on how to respond to both positive and negative behaviors of all children in the family.  Collaboration of St. Nicholas Hospital and the FRC.                                                                           When: Tuesday, October 12, 2010 OR Tuesday, January 11, 2011, 6:00-7:30pm         Where: FRC-Sheboygan site                                                                            Cost: $10.00 per family to cover cost of supplies                                                      Register: www.stnicholashospital.org or 920-459-4636

Love and Logic for Middle School Parents  - “Tweenagers” quickly become teenagers and having a positive, respectful relationship with them from middle school through the teen years is key to a smooth transition.  Join Deb Gentine-Ebert for practical parenting tips and strategies to get you geared up for letting them spread their wings wile still keeping the parental bond strong.  Farnsworth Middle School in Sheboygan hosts the classes and parents from every school district are invited to attend.           When: Mondays, October 4, 11, 18, 25, 2010, 6:00-7:30pm                                  Where: Farnsworth Middle School, 1017 Union Avenue, Sheboygan                          Cost: $15 per family, payable in advance to the FRC, covers the cost of the workbook   Register:  click  here or 920-892-6706

Teen Building
Parenting doesn’t stop or slow down in the teen years, it speeds up!  Phil Duket, FRC staff, is at the head of this class which empowers parents to build resilient teens who make good choices. FRC Fall Fest – Honey Crisp, Delicious, Gala, Macintosh, Pippin . . . did you know that there are over 7500 different apple varieties?  Visit Whispering Orchards with the FRC staff to learn about apples, pick a few, and meet barnyard friends.  Dress for interactive farm conditions.  Pumpkins, apples by the pound, and other goodies are available for sale.                                                                                           When: Thursday, October 14, 2010

Winter Wonderland – Who’s got a beard that’s long and white?  Who comes around on a special night?  Must be Santa!  And Santa is a MUST at this annual holiday bash.  Come for light refreshments, crafts and entertainment.   Family or individual photos will be taken by appointment, with or without the jolly old elf - it’s your choice.  Ken Pannier (Pannier Photography) and Glenn Thiesenheusen (Blue Moon Studio) donate their services for this family event.  Take your chances at our annual holiday raffle. You are invited to bring a new or gently used stuffed toy, which will be packed in Santa’s bag for delivery to Senior Citizen friends who live alone and are on his Christmas morning visit list.  Registration is required, so sign up early and kick off the holiday season with the staff of the FRC.                                                          When: Wednesday, December 1, 2010.                                                            Where: Plymouth Arts Center, 520 E. PAT Picnic PAT is Sweet 16 this year!  Join us for our annual potluck picnic for all current and former families of the Parents As Teachers home visiting program.  We’ll provide the games, the beverages, and the tableware.  You provide the laughter, the fun of connecting with old and new friends, and a dish to pass.  We’ll celebrate with birthday cake marking 16 years of Parents As Teachers (PAT) through the FRC.  Volunteers for set-up, clean-up, and helping with games are always welcome and needed.  Let us know if you can help!                                                                                    When: August 26, 2010, 5:30-7:30pm.                                                             Where: Sheboygan Falls River Park, large shelter.                                               Cost: This is a free event; please bring a dish to pass, based on your last name:

Kids Nutrition Corner Classes Join Laura Graney, Registered Dietitian, for an enjoyable hour making yummy snacks that are both delicious and nutritious.  Children ages 2 to 5 years accompanied by an adult will enjoy these sessions.  Please choose a maximum of two sessions to allow others the opportunity to participate as well.  Waiting lists will be created as needed.  Due to space constraints, we cannot welcome unregistered adults or children.

Cost is $5 per family for each session and is payable in advance.
